About me
My name is Jakub Kuřák and I’m a Czech astrophotographer passionate about capturing the beauty of the night sky. I specialise in wide-field Milky Way photography, deep-sky imaging, and long-exposure landscapes where the cosmos meets the earth.

I’ve been fascinated by the stars since childhood and picked up a camera to share that wonder with others. What started as a hobby quickly became a serious pursuit — one that takes me far from city lights and deep into dark skies across the Czech Republic and beyond.
There’s a particular kind of silence that only exists under a truly dark sky. Standing beneath the arc of the Milky Way, waiting for a long exposure to resolve, is where I feel most at home. My style leans toward wide, atmospheric compositions — the cosmos framed by the quiet shapes of the earth below it, so the vastness above always has something human to measure it against.
What inspires me is contrast — the fragile glow of distant galaxies against absolute darkness, the way a single frame can hold light that left its source thousands of years ago. My goal has never been to simply document the sky, but to translate the feeling of standing under it into an image someone can keep.

On the technical side, I shoot with a mix of full-frame and dedicated astro cameras, working across fast wide-angle lenses for nightscapes and a tracked setup for deep-sky targets. Much of the craft happens after the shutter closes — stacking dozens of exposures, coaxing faint nebulosity out of the noise, and processing with a light hand so the final image still feels true to the night it was taken.
Over the years my work has been shared, exhibited, and collected by people who, like me, find something grounding in the scale of the universe. Each print and calendar is a small way of carrying that feeling indoors — a fragment of a dark sky hung on a wall in the middle of an ordinary day.
Looking ahead, I want to travel to some of the darkest skies left on the planet, chase rarer celestial events, and keep refining the way I capture them. The night sky is endless, and so, I hope, is the work of learning how to photograph it.
